Welcome to Callaghan's Official Chess Blog!

Callaghan is a 7-year-old boy who loves chess, math, and science.  His Poppy sent him his first chess set, and he was introduced to the game by his dad, at five years old. From the time he first learned the game, he wanted to play all the time. Callaghan would eagerly request a game from anyone who knew how to play chess. Our poor neighbor tried not to make eye contact with Callaghan, in fear that he may bug to play him again!

Callaghan loves being in an atmosphere with other children who play chess and want a challenge. He has played in chess tournaments throughout the United Kingdom and the United States, as well as at the World School Individual Chess Championships in Romania. He has been known to wake up at 6am to go to a tournament, play back-to-back games, get home at 10pm, then ask to play some more chess! His dedication and passion for the game have made him a stronger player, winning him numerous trophies, titles, and medals.

Callaghan is the 2013 California State Chess Champion (grades 1-3), California State Blitz Champion (grades K-3),  and California Bughouse Champion (grades 4-6). He is also the 2012 Oxfordshire County Under 9 Chess Champion and 2013 Alameda County Grades 2 & 3 Chess Champion.  As of 2013, Callaghan is the only chess player to be featured in the top player lists for his age in both the United States and England simultaneously. Callaghan is ranked in the top ten chess players for his age in the United States and England as of April 2013.

Callaghan is a member of the United States Chess Federation, the Northern California Chess Association, BayAreaChess, the Mechanics' Institute, the Berkeley Chess School, and Stanford University Education Program for Gifted Youth. He is a former member of the English Chess Federation, the Cumnor Chess Club, the British Judo Council, and the England Team that went to the World School Indvidual Chess Championships in Iasi, Romania.
